Dennis Rodman is an American retired professional basketballer who played in the NBA from 1986 to 2000. He won three championships with the Chicago Bulls and two with the Detroit Pistons. His nicknames were Dennis the Menace, Rodzilla, El Loco, Demolition Man, and The Worm. Even though Rodman began his career as a bench player, he is the first player with the highest rebounds per game average since defensive and offensive rebounds began in 1973-1974. After he became a full-time starter, he often had more rebounds than the other team’s players combined. He is famously known for dyeing his hair and having many body piercings and tattoos.

In 1996, Rodman published an autobiography Bad as I Wanna Be in collaboration with Tim Keown.

He also opens up about his relationship with his daughter, his divorce, and the romance affair with Madonna.

He also explores his experiences in his basketball career as he played for the aggressive Detroit “Bad Boys” alongside famous players like Bill Laimbeer, Isaiah Thomas, and Joe Dumars, and his struggles to fit in the San Antonio Spurs where neither his teammates nor the coach accepted him.

Rodman also reflects on his thriving career in the Chicago Bulls under the coaching of Phil Jackson where his true talent finally flourished. His writing is raw and unfiltered. He speaks an open mind, whines about his salary but also uses the book to settle some scores. He deeply criticizes the NBA for transforming into a flashier entertainment business where players are just paid more money just to put on a show.

He also doesn’t shy away from condemning the hypocrisy of homophobia in sports even though he isn’t a gay man. He also condemns racial discrimination and makes a controversial statement that Larry Bird was simply overrated because he was a Whiteman. Overall, Bad as I Wanna Be is more than just basketball.
