David D. Friedman

David D. Friedman (David Director Friedman) was born on February 12th, 1945 and is currently 81 years old. David D. Friedman was born in New York City, NY, USA. Friedman attended Harvard University where he received a bachelor's degree in chemistry and physics and the University of Chicago where he received a master's degree and a PhD in theoretical physics.

David D. Friedman is best known as a writer, economist, legal scholar, and physicist from the United States. He is popular for his ideas on anarcho-capitalism, which is all about a society without government.

According to Friedman, most services the state provides, such as protection, courts, and law enforcement, could be accomplished via private companies. He believes that a free market guided by voluntary cooperation and demand and supply could more efficiently handle things like security and justice.

David D. Friedman has also worked at several universities as a professor of economics and law. In his teaching and writing, he uses economic reasoning to explore how social systems, markets, and laws could function without being controlled by central government authorities.

Outside of academic work, David Friedman is an author of fiction novels. He also explores medieval culture and historical recreation as hobbies.

In 1978, David D. Friedman published The Machinery of Freedom, where he introduced a society based on his ideals of no or minimal government, voluntary cooperation, individual rights, and private property.

He explores how services like laws, the court, and policing could be provided by private entities. Friedman also discusses themes of the problems of the welfare state, the failure of drug prohibition, and unrestricted immigration.

Drawing from the legal system of medieval Iceland, he contends that intervention as a foreign policy should be avoided at all costs. He also explains why moral rules are insufficient in creating fair social policies, even as he shows how economics is more critical in guiding policy and law.

More than two decades later, David D. Friedman shows how economics is more about people’s everyday choices rather than just about money.

He uses everyday activities such as politics, grocery shopping, marriage, and crime to explain complicated ideas such as how social rules and laws affect us, how markets work, and why people behave as they usually do.

He contends that most things we consider uncomplicated, such as how rules shape our world, why crime happens, and why we pick what to buy, usually follow economic logic.

In his only fictional work, Harald, David D. Friedman tells the story of Harald, a strong warrior of the Vales who is charged with defending Kaerlia, his homeland, from the threat of a very powerful empire.

The combination of a troubled realm and a weak king is very dangerous, and hence Harald needs to step forward and protect his people. Friedman follows the man as he works hard to unite different groups to organize and resist invasion.

It is a work that shows how alliances, leadership, and cunning can be critical in making a stand even against impossible odds.
