Clare Sager Bio:
Clare Sager is a corsetiere, former English teacher, lifelong fantasy reader, and bestselling author of paranormal romance.
Having two degrees in creative writing means that she just cannot restrict herself to one genre and hence she also writes steamy fantasy and romantic fantasy in addition to being an outline coach and editor.
She has not always had two degrees in creative writing given that she started out working as an office lackey before she turned her attention to full time writing.
Clare published “A Thief & A Gentlewoman,” her debut novel in 2018, and has now become a prolific novelist with more than a dozen works of fiction to her name.
She now lives her dream penning fantasy romances peopled with strong, troublesome, and swoon-worthy men and the sassy and strong women who can handle them. Clare currently makes her home deep in Robin Hood country in Nottingham, England. When she is not planning or writing her next novel she can be found lifting weights at the gym, sewing, and reading.
She is also addicted to stationery and has a fountain pen and washi tape collection that could easily rival a stationery store. Sager also loves cocktails, coffee, and cats and speaks fluent sarcasm.
Sager was one of those authors that started young when she was just about eight years old. Seeing her interest in writing, her father got her an old-school PC from which she began writing semi-fictional stories about the happenings all around her. Clare was about twelve when she told her father that she would become a fiction novelist in adulthood.
She had always been a consumer of books and had discovered that they were written by people whose ranks she wanted to join at some point in the future.
Her views about authorship evolved over the years but when she was 21 and in college, she switched to English and Creative Writing. A year after graduating, she went back to college to get her master’s degree.
It was while she was doing her master’s that she started writing daily which taught her a lot about novel writing. But it would not be until she was thirty-one that she finally completed writing her first full-length manuscript following a health scare.
From draft to when her novel was published took nine years, even as she got married, started a whole new career, and moved across the country.
Clare Sager’s novel “Beneath Black Sails” tells the brilliant story of a pirate hunter determined to capture a sea witch accused of murder.
While they could not be any more different, in a world of deadly secrets and hidden treasures, the most dangerous thing could be their attraction to each other.
Vice has weather magic to work with making her the bane of the turbulent seas, even though she is yet to make captain. If she can manage to earn a promotion, she believes she will finally be able to control her destiny.
As for Knigh Blackwood, all he needs is money to pay off the many debts his family owes, and as such has become a pirate hunter working for the Royal Navy.
When he learns of the bounty on Lady Vice he becomes even more determined to bring her to justice even if he would have to beat her at her own game. Even though they are forced to work together, they soon realize that they have some crackling tension.
As they deal with scheming crewmates and battles at sea, they find clues that indicate that the answer to both their problem could lie in finding a long-lost treasure.
However, they also have to contend with some dark secrets from the past best left forgotten. The closer Knigh and Vice grow, the greater the threat to his family and her life given that one must fall for the other to succeed.
“Against Dark Tides” by Clare Sager is a fascinating enemies to lovers and enemies once again novel that continues to follow the life and times of Lady Vice and Knigh. Lady Vice is a notorious pirate who loses friends, crew, and ship, which is just about everything she has. To further complicate matters she finds herself stuck in the sea working with the man that had betrayed her trust.
Blackwood is a captain no longer and he no longer hunts pirates for the Royal Navy. The only thing he has left is Lady Vice, the woman he stabbed in the back and she would sooner cut out his tongue than even think of forgiveness.
Drake’s treasure is the only thing that still glues them together and might be the only thing that could help them mend fences. They soon discover that they are not the only ones looking for the elusive X marking the spot among other clues. Between them and Drake’s millions stands a sea monster only recently believed to be a legend, a former lover, and a scheming duke. But the biggest obstacle might just be the complicated feelings that they have been developing for each other.
Clare Sager’s “Under Black Skies” opens with Lady Vice reuniting with her crew as they go on another quest seeking to find Drake’s treasure.
But there is a good explanation for why the treasure has been missing for more than two centuries as they discover that it is hidden by deadly traps and fiendish clues. To keep her family and her crew safe, she cannot afford any kind of misstep even though that is easier said than done given the presence of Knigh Blackwood.
While Knigh no longer works for the Royal Navy, he has found a new home on the Venatrix with Lady Vice. He longs to be more than just friends with her. He is also battling some demons from the present and several from the past.
To keep his family safe, he needs a lot of money, and finding the treasure would do it. However, troublesome feelings and traps are not the only challenges they have to deal with.
When treachery is discovered, no one is safe; neither the Pirate Queen nor the Knigh family nor their home.
