Dogs on the Trail: A Year in the Life is a delightful photographic journey into 1 year in the life of a team of sled dogs, all based upon Blair’s own wildly popular Twitter feed.
When she began posting photos of her dog team on Twitter, she’d no idea of the response that she’d get. Being a musher isn’t only about racing, raising dogs from puppyhood until retirement (and beyond) is a full time job. She and Quince Mountain (her husband and fellow musher) wanted to share their stories about their life with their dog team. And not only the big stuff, like wild animal encounters and expeditions, however also the mundane every day things: the challenges of storing 1,000 pounds of raw meat, scouting new trails with the dogs, the choices which come with putting a team together, how she trains her puppies to be brave. These are scary stories, goofy stories, heartfelt stories, stories which will connect with people and continue to go viral.
Inspired by such connections, this is a chronicle starting in the autumn while the weather begins cooling, training on both in the snow and on dry land, then racing and camping. Spring brings mud, which is lousy for sledding, however the dogs love it. Summer’s the season for puppies. The book concludes on a beginning, anticipating the adventurous lives the new puppies have in store.
