I’ve never wished this before, but reading Astrid Lindgren’s make me wish I understood Swedish. The Pippi Longstocking books I’ve found in English are so marvelously quirky that I wish that every Pippi story were available in my own language—though I’ve yet to find anything but 5 most popular titles. I loved reading these books aloud to my kids, and we found ourselves giggling along with Pippi’s wild actions and imagination. It may be that Astrid Lindgren herself never really grew up, but a world of children and adults alike can thank her for keeping childhood alive in the pages of her books.
