Adam Joseph Copeland is an actor and professional wrestler who is mostly known by his pseudonym
Edge, under which he has used for the majority of his in-ring wrestling career.
He was brought up by Judy Copeland, his mother, and loved wrestling from an early age as he idolized stars such as Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan. When he was 17, he was the winner of a
Toronto Star essay contest in which the prize was free training with wrestlers Ron Hutchison and Sweet Daddy Siki.
Adam Copeland made his debut in wrestling in 1992. He would then join the
World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which would then become
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 1997, where he performed under the pseudonym
Edge.
Working with Christian, who is also his friend in real life, Edge became a prominent member of the
WWE. During this time, he won seven
World Tag Team Championships. As a solo performer, he also had many achievements, including 11 world titles and a total of 31 WWE championships.
Copeland made history when he became the first to win the
Royal Rumble,
Money in the Bank, and
King of the Ring matches. In 2012, he was inducted into the
WWE Hall of Fame.
In 2011, a series of neck injuries forced Adam Copeland to retire from wrestling. Nine years later, in 2020, he was a surprise inclusion in the
Royal Rumble. In 2023, he went back to wrestling under the name Cope but with the
All Elite Wrestling company, where he is already a two-time champion.
Outside of his acting endeavors, he has been an actor in films such as
Highlander: Endgame and
Money Plane and series such as
Vikings,
Haven, and
Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which got him an Emmy Award nomination.
He is married to Beth Phoenix, who is also a wrestler, and together they have two children.
In 2004, Adam Copeland published his memoir,
Adam Copeland on Edge (WWE), which he published while recovering from a neck injury.
He goes back to his childhood, where he was the son of a single mother and was inspired by wrestling greats such as Hulk Hogan. After training with Canadian wrestler Sweet Daddy Siki, he got into the WWE initially portraying The Brood’s gothic persona, before teaming up with Christian to achieve much success.
Chronicling his journey from dreaming in small-town Canada to becoming a champion in
WWE, he reflects on professional and personal setbacks such as injury and divorce, winning titles, and many other things along the way to becoming who he was at the time of writing.
