We need more people to read Jilly Cooper’s work. I know she’s an accomplished author, so she must have a solid fanbase. But I don’t know anyone in my life that reads her novels, which is a shame because they deserve far more attention.
Despite all the glitz and glamor in her books, she writes ordinary people, relatable characters with relatable stories. I have a pen pal (we’ve never met) who loved Cooper as a teen but then abandoned her when she reached adulthood. She thought that Cooper wouldn’t hold up to the scrutiny of an adult’s perspective.
I dared her to re-read ‘Bella.’ Two weeks later, we spent hours gushing about the book. Cooper’s stories are so passionate. If all you want is to escape for a few hours, you couldn’t ask for a better author.
I began reading Jilly Cooper’s books as a teenager, and I’ve grown to love her. She creates believable and realistic characters, and I think that’s the reason I keep coming back for more. I really liked ‘Bella’, and it’s adorable how the protagonist needs to be loved even when she makes mistakes. Bella is a cheesy and easy to read the book and hard to put down. Cooper has a special gift of weaving evocative, fun romance. ‘Riders’ is a perfect read when it comes to something light, and a little bit scandalous, and I have naturally found myself reading the novel more than twice. Cooper’s books are the type where you become invested in the characters and the storyline.
