Multi-time Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks is publishing his debut novel very shortly, according to The Guardian.
The novel is entitled The Making of Another Motion Picture Masterpiece, and it has been described as “wildly ambitious.” The novel spans 80 years, concluding with the opening of the film that is referenced in the book’s title.
The book will be published by publishing giant Penguin Random House and will be released on May 9th, 2023 in the United States and the United Kingdom.
While this is Hanks’ debut as a novelist, it is not his fiction debut. His first foray into fiction was the short story collection Uncommon Type.
Tom Hanks won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1994 for Philadelphia, and again in 1995 for Forrest Gump (which was based on a 1986 novel by Winston Groom). He was also nominated for three other Academy Awards for Best Actor, and once for Best Supporting Actor.
Beyond his award-winning roles, he’s made memorable appearances in such films as A League of Their Own, Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, Apollo 13, You’ve Got Mail, The Green Mile, Cast Away, Road to Perdition, Captain Phillips, and many more. He is also the voice of Woody in Toy Story.
