Spotify Wrapped is the audio streaming service’s version of an end-of-the-year list. Users of the service see what songs, artists, and podcasts they listened to most over the past year as well as data for the streaming service overall. In 2024, for the first time, Spotify included data on audiobooks in their press release.
Readers don’t see the books in their personal Wrapped for obvious reasons (most people don’t listen to the same books over and over in the way they do songs,) but they have released the data on the most popular books on the website.
The big winner on Spotify was Sarah J. Maas and her A Court of Thorns and Roses Series. The series had a big year as it went viral on BookTok, the book community on TikTok. The first book in the series, A Court of Thorn and Roses, was the top book of the year while the follow-up A Court of Mist and Fury landed fourth, and A Court of Wings and Ruin landed third. Unsurprisingly, she was the most popular author of the year on Spotify.
It was a bit surprising to see J.R.R. Tolkien and The Fellowship of the Ring as the second-most popular author and second-most popular book on the platform. However, with narration by actor Andy Serkis, it makes sense. Also, it shows how the popularity of that series remains to this day. Similar things could be said about the eighth book on the list, A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, the sixth most popular author.
The third-most popular book on the list was I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jenette McCurdy. The tell-all memoir from the former Nickelodeon star came out in 2022, but its popularity has endured.
Colleen Hoover‘s It Ends With Us ranked fifth on the list. The film adaptation coming out this year surely helped the ranking. Movie and television adaptations of books helped numerous books across the platform with Spotify also mentioning the boosted listens of Wicked and Bridgerton.
The Spotify Wrapped Top 10 Most Listened-to Audiobooks of 2024:
- “A Court of Thorns and Roses” by Sarah J. Maas
- “The Fellowship of the Ring” by J.R.R. Tolkien
- “I’m Glad My Mom Died” by Jennette McCurdy
- “A Court of Mist and Fury” by Sarah J. Maas

- “The 48 Laws of Power” by Robert Greene
- “A Court of Wings and Ruin” by Sarah J. Maas
- “A Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin
- “Icebreaker” by Hannah Grace
- “Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros
The most listened-to authors of the year list features a lot of crossover from the top books of the year with Maas, Tolkien, McCurdy, Hoover, Greene, Grace, and Martin all ranking in the top ten.
The list also includes the “Master of Horror” Stephen King as the third-most listened-to author. His reputation as well as the sheer amount of books he has in circulation certainly helped his case here.
Freida McFadden, the author of many great thrillers including The Housemaid Series, made the list as the fifth-most listened-to author. Emily Henry, the beach read master, rounds out the list at number eight.
