Welcome to October, one of the best months of the year, as it marks the countdown to Halloween!
It’s also a great month for book releases. October and November are the two months of the year when I spend more than usual on new books, and this time around, it looks to be the same.
As I browse the most popular authors on Book Notification, and the new books they have releasing this month, I know it’s going to be a busy month for my credit card.
We’ve got over 60 new books coming out this month by the most popular authors on Book Notification. Here’s a quick look at some of the highlights – and this was the most challenging month to break down by far. I always pick 12 books to feature, and this one caused me a lot of stress in deciding which authors to leave out.
October 1st:
Dating After the End of the World by Jeneva Rose: I’m a big fan of Jeneva Rose as she is finding success in a variety of different genres, and am looking forward to this action/adventure romance novel.
A viral outbreak forces Casey back to her prepper father’s compound, where she must fight the undead and her feelings for the high school bully she once hated.
October 7th:
Sharp Force by Patricia Cornwell: The 29th novel in the Kay Scarpetta series, will see everyone’s favourite chief medical examiner going up against a high-tech serial killer.
The Intruder by Freida McFadden: The latest standalone novel from the most popular author on Book Notification, and we can’t wait for it. In The Intruder, a bloodied girl shows up at Casey’s cabin during a hurricane, and a night of secrets and deadly danger begins.
Cry Havoc by Jack Carr: The first novel in Jacks new Tom Reece series. In 1968, young Navy SEAL Tom Reece is thrown into a secret war in Vietnam where Soviet spies, vanishing teams, and a deadly mission could change the balance of power forever.
Photograph by Brian Freeman: In this standalone mystery, a private investigator digs into a murdered woman’s hidden past, with only an old photograph as a clue to a cold case that turns deadly.
October 14th:
The Haunting of Paynes Hollow by Kelley Armstrong: Now THIS is the type of book I am looking forward to this month. In this supernatural horror, Sam inherits her family’s lakefront cottage, but when her aunt vanishes and eerie things rise from the water, she must face the dark truth about her father’s past.
Gone Before Goodbye by Harlan Coben and Reese Witherspoon: Following in from the Clintons working with James Patterson and Louise Penny, we now have Reese Witherspoon teaming up with Harlan Coben for his latest suspense thriller.
Knowing some of the thriller books Reese has made for Reese’s Book Club, I have high hopes for this one. A fallen combat surgeon takes a secret job for a powerful man, but when he vanishes under her care, she’s pulled into a deadly conspiracy that could cost her life.
The Secret Christmas Library by Jenny Colgan: I’m a big fan of the title of this book. Jenny, of course, also wrote Midnight at the Christmas Bookshop. In this new mystery by Jenny, a book hunter snowed into a Scottish castle at Christmas, races to uncover a hidden treasure that could save the estate, while caught between a charming laird and a rival she can’t quite resist.
And to All a Good Bite by David Rosenfelt: A very popular series, and we’re all looking forward to this Christmas mystery! Andy Carpenter trades his football plans for a Christmas case when a former hero is accused of murder, and only Andy can prove his innocence and reunite him with his dog.
October 21st:
The Proving Ground by Michael Connelly: Michael was voted by Book Notification readers as the #1 author whose books they blindly buy, so I really don’t need to write a description for this one do I? It’s the 8th Lincoln Lawyer novel. That’s all you need to know.
The Widow by John Grisham: John takes a break from his excellent legal thrillers to write his first-ever whodunit mystery! When a wealthy widow is killed, small-town lawyer Simon Latch is accused of her murder and must solve the case himself before he loses everything.
October 28th:
The Black Wolf by Louise Penny: The latest novel in the series voted most wanted if stranded on a desert island.
Still recovering from his last case, Chief Inspector Gamache hunts a hidden enemy known as the Black Wolf, whose deadly conspiracy is only just beginning.
Here are all of the books releasing in October 2025 by the most popular authors on Book Notification.
