It’s a very special Thursday, May 22nd, as we celebrate Sherlock Holmes Day. The day was selected because today was the birthday of his creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock is one of, if not the biggest, literary characters of all time. We salute Sherlock, Conan Doyle, and all the authors below who are releasing new books today.
The House Sitter is a chilling psychological thriller from Keri Beevis. She knows what she saw. But proving it could cost her everything.
Fresh from a painful breakup, I retreat to my brother’s sleek city apartment for solitude and clarity. But one stifling summer night, as a blackout plunges the street into darkness, I find myself watching the glowing windows of the building across the way. It’s harmless at first—until I witness something I can’t explain. A woman is on a penthouse balcony. A flash of tension. And then… nothing.
Days later, the same woman is reported missing. When I report what I saw, the man in the penthouse insists she was never there—and he has an alibi to prove it. But I know he’s lying. As I dig deeper, I realize someone doesn’t want the truth to come out. Now, someone is watching me, and I have to ask: how far will they go to keep their secrets hidden?
The Bloodborne Court Series by Kate Stevens begins with Bride of Brutal Hearts. Two vicious vampire kings. One mortal bride. A ritual meant to destroy her creates an unbreakable bond instead. When her sister is chosen for the blood harvest, she volunteers in her place—trading a quiet life and failing health for a death sentence. Claimed as a living sacrifice, she’s delivered to the Conqueror, cold and commanding, and the Butcher, beautiful and cruel. Their plan: drain her life force to fuel their dark reign. But the ceremony backfires, binding them together in a way none of them expected. Now the kings crave more than blood—and she’s drawn to the monsters who were meant to be her end.
Pride and Pemberley is a standalone novel inspired by Jane Austen by Dee Garretson. Libby Darcy, a modern American and descendant of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, inherits the crumbling Pemberley estate in England and sets out to restore it while rebuilding her life. With a failed bar exam, a broken engagement, and no renovation skills, she plans to turn the mansion into a wedding venue to save it from a greedy developer. Landscape architect Davin de Bourgh doubts she’s up to the task, especially with her chaotic sisters in tow. With one celebrity wedding looming, a ghost, a grumpy swan, a missing pug, kitchen mishaps, and unexpected sparks with Davin, Libby must fight to turn Pemberley—and herself—around.
The Blind Detective Series by Christina Koning continues with Murder in Oxford. In 1942, war-weary Frederick Rowlands arrives in Oxford to help his old friend, Major Ian Fraser, uncover a suspected spy within the university and nearby Blenheim Palace, a hub of British Intelligence. The city is tense and militarized, and before long, a brutal murder adds urgency to their mission. Drawn into a world of espionage, Rowlands must stop a killer and protect a covert operation’s secrets, as a dangerous game of cat and mouse unfolds with lives—and national security—on the line.
