Rom-com fans, get ready for a new Romantic Hero to come to the big screen.
Kirsty Greenwood‘s Romantic Hero won’t hit bookshelves until June, but it has already been scooped up by Amazon MGM Studios for an upcoming film. The book was acquired by producer Sullivan Street, with Peter Chiarelli set to write the script. Chiarelli is no stranger to romantic comedies as he scripted the Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock rom-com The Proposal, and also served as co-writer on Crazy Rich Asians.
Jennifer Salke, head of Sullivan Street, has helped shepherd numerous adaptations in her career, including Reacher, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and Project Hail Mary.
Greenwood had her breakout as a novelist in 2024 with the release of The Love of My Afterlife. It was nominated for the Goodreads Best Romance Award and was also a Good Morning America Book Club pick.
Romantic Hero feels like a great fit for the big screen. The story follows romance novelist Gertie Bickerstaff as she struggles with writer’s block after a breakup when the villain from her unfinished manuscript, a cowboy named River Oakley, appears in her real life. Hoping to resolve both their problems, they agree to help each other. Gertie will finish the book so River can return to his world, and he will help her repair her relationship with her ex. As they spend time together, Gertie begins to reconsider both her story and her assumptions about River, forcing her to decide what kind of ending she truly wants.
The book will be released on June 16th, 2026.
