Deadline reports that “Bosch,” the television series based on the novels by Michael Connelly, is getting an expanded universe from Amazon.
The first project in the works features “J. Edgar,” Harry Bosch’s former partner. The series will be set in Miami, where he’ll be working undercover for the FBI. The series will deal with the seedy side of Miami, as well as his own past. Detective Jerry Edgar is portrayed by actor Jamie Hector.
Next is a series featuring Detective Renee Ballard, who has not appeared on “Bosch” as of yet. In this series, Detective Ballard will be running the LAPD’s cold case division. Renee has learned from Harry Bosch, and she’ll have to deal with the politics involving her gender and position.
The original “Bosch” series ran for seven seasons and is the longest-running series on Prime Video. Its first spinoff was “Bosch: Legacy,” which has a second season premiering in the fall on Amazon Freevee. It is unknown which service the new proposed series would premiere on.
This news came only a day after Showtime announced that “Dexter” (which was originally based on Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay) not only had a prequel in the works, but also a spin-off based on John Lithgow’s Trinity Killer as well as a continuation of “Dexter: New Blood.”
