It’s nearly April, which means it’s time once again to dig into the upcoming movie and television adaptations for the month to come. The world of television is dominated by upcoming series based on books this month, including the return of The Boys and XO, Kitty. Plus, new series based on Man on Fire, and Margo’s Got Money Troubles.
From anime like Dorohedoro to a family epic in The House of the Spirits and a new comedy series in The Miniature Wife, there is plenty to be excited about in the world of book adaptations this month.
Let’s take a look at the Book to Movie/TV Adaptations for April 2026.
New Film Adaptations
Albert Camus’ The Stranger is the inspiration for a new adaptation from filmmaker François Ozon. The film originally debuted at the Venice International Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Golden Lion, the festival’s top award. The film was released in France last year, but it makes its North American debut in theaters on April 3rd.
New TV Adaptations
The Handmaid's Tale came to an end last year, but Margaret Atwood‘s series will continue on Hulu with The Testaments. The story takes place years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, and stars Chase Infiniti of One Battle After Another fame. The series will premiere on Hulu on April 8th.
The Miniature Wife by Manuel Gonzales follows a married couple who have their lives changed when an accident shrinks the wife to six inches tall. The comedy drama adaptation will star Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen as Lindy and Les Littlejohn. The Miniature Wife premieres on Peacock April 9th. [Trailer]
Margo’s Got Money Troubles is one of this month’s most anticipated new series. The all-star cast includes Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Nick Offerman. Based on the novel by Rufi Thorpe, the story follows a young woman who turns to OnlyFans to support herself after an affair leaves her pregnant. Margo reconnects with her estranged father, a former professional wrestler, to achieve success. Margo’s Got Money Troubles premieres on Apple TV April 15th. [Trailer]
Isabel Allende‘s The House of the Spirits has previously been adaptated into a film and a theatrical play, and now is getting its first television adaptation. The miniseries will follow the Trueba family over a century of their lives. The House of the Spirits will premiere on Prime Video April 29th. [Trailer]
Man On Fire has previously been adapted twice, most famously in the 2024 Denzel Washington film, and is now getting a series adaptation on Netflix. The new series stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy. The adaptation of A.J. Quinnell‘s Man on Fire debuts on April 30th.
Returning TV Show Adaptations
The adaptation of Q. Hayashida‘s manga Dorohedoro returns April 1st for Season 2 on Netflix. [Trailer]
Jenny Han dominated much of last year with The Summer I Turned Pretty, and now it’s time to return to her other popular series. XO, Kitty, a spinoff of To All the Boys I've Loved Before Series, returns with Season 3 on Netflix April 2nd. [Trailer]
Finally, we have season five of Garth Ennis‘ The Boys. The beloved series will wrap up with this final season, which is sure to get a lot of discussion among fans. The Boys returns on Prime Video April 8th.
