Andy Weir‘s Project Hail Mary is one of the most beloved science fiction novels of the past decade, and next month it is set to make its big screen debut with Ryan Gosling playing Dr. Ryland Grace. On top of the movie adaptation, Project Hail Mary is also getting arguably a big honor: a LEGO set.
The LEGO set will feature the Hail Mary, the spaceship from the novel, a mini-figure of Dr. Grace, a buildable Rocky, and a display stand for the set. Interestingly, the display stand features a crank so that you can simulate the spaceship’s centrifugal gravity system that is seen in the book. Talk about attention to detail! The set will be 830 pieces and is aimed at adults. The Dr. Grace minifigure will mark the first time Ryan Gosling has appeared as a LEGO minifigure.

There is high hope for Project Hail Mary to be a big hit at the box office, and the LEGO set should be seen as a very positive sign. There are plenty of LEGO sets for Harry Potter, Marvel, and Star Wars, which are among the biggest franchises in the world. However, a set for a non-franchise movie that is based on a book is a novel concept for the blocks company, but one we are glad to see. Let’s hope they continue the trend, and we get LEGO sets for more adult-themed books being adapted into films. What’s next? The Odyssey? Remarkably Bright Creatures?
The LEGO Icons Project Hail Mary set will be released on March 1st, and has a retail price of $99.99 in the United States. The movie will release on March 20th of this year, so you should have plenty of time to build the set before you see the film.
