The nominees for the 2023 British Book Awards have been announced!
The British Book Awards, also known as the Nibbies, are one of the most prestigious and highly anticipated literary awards in the United Kingdom. The awards celebrate the best books and authors from the previous year, across a wide range of genres and categories.
The British Book Awards were first established in 1990, and have since become a key event in the literary calendar. The awards are sponsored by the bookselling industry magazine The Bookseller, and are judged by a panel of experts from across the publishing world, including publishers, booksellers, agents, and journalists.
There are a range of categories in the British Book Awards, including Book of the Year, Debut Book of the Year, Fiction Book of the Year, Non-Fiction Book of the Year, Crime & Thriller Book of the Year, multiple children’s book awards, and many more. Other awards that may require explanation include the Pageturner Award for bestselling books over any genre or format and the Discover Award for underrepresented writers.
Winning a British Book Award is a major achievement for any author, and can lead to increased exposure, sales, and critical acclaim. Past winners of the Book of the Year award include Margaret Atwood, David Walliams, and Hilary Mantel.
