2022 Dayton Literary Peace Prize Nominees Announced

The 2022 Dayton Literary Peace Prize nominees have been announced. The Dayton Literary Peace Prize is the only annual U.S. literary award that promotes peace through the written word. The goal is to honour “writers whose work uses the power of literature to foster peace, social justice, and global understanding.”

The award has two categories – Fiction and Nonfiction. The winners will receive a $10,000 prize on September 27th, with the runners-up receiving $5,000.

The nominees are as follows:



  • High Conflict by Amanda Ripley
  • How the Word is Passed by Clint Smith
  • Invisible Child by Andrea Elliott
  • The Last Nomad by Shugri Said Sahl
  • The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee
  • Wildland: The Making of America’s Fury by Evan Osnos

In addition to that, they are awarding Wil Haygood with the Holbrooke Award in a separate ceremony.

The award was established in 2006. Previous winners include Alexander Starritt, Alice Hoffman, Patricia Engel, Viet Thanh Nguyen, Josh Weil, Dave Eggers, Marlon James, and many more.
