Author Pages Guide

Our author pages are the core of Book Notification, and in this guide we will take you through the entire author page, explaining each element.

We will use Lee Child as an example.

Statistics:

This section displays some key author statistics based on data from Book Notification readers, including their highest-rated books and most-read books.

Default Book Listing:

This is an author’s list of books. By default, all authors are listed in publication order. A description of the series is listed above the list of books.

Here is a list of each column in order:

Checkbox Above Numbers: The number beside each book is the number of that book in this series. The checkbox above is a “select all” feature where you can mark all books in a series as a specific status. For more on that, see our Select All GOTTA LINK THIS page.

Read: This displays your “read” status on a book – whether you have read it, are currently reading it, have it on your TBR, etc. You can click the checkbox and the “Book Manage” popup will appear where you can change the status, rate the book and more. See our Tracking Your Books page for more details on that.

The green number beside the book indicates your personal rating.

Avg: This is the average rating of the book, as rated by Book Notification users.

Year: This is the publication year of the book.

Book Link: This is a link to the book on an online bookstore. By default it will refer to your local Amazon however you can change your default bookstore if you normally purchase from another retailer.

Chronological Book Listing:

Some book series may have a second listing, which is the chronological order as displayed below:

This means that the story within the books has a different timeline than the publication order. The book Killing Floor begins with Jack Reacher having recently left the Military. However books such as The Enemy and The Secret, despite published after Killing Floor, take place while Jack is still in the Military, hence the chronological order.

It is your choice as to whether you read a series in publication or chronological order. Note that with some book series, if the chronological order differs by just one book, we’ll often add a note on the series at the bottom rather than generate an entirely new listing.

Some “books” may be a short story/novella, which is usually a story less than 200 pages. In this case, we will tag those books with this icon:

Depending on the author and how they prefer to list them; sometimes short stories/novellas will have their own separate series and other times they will be listed within the series itself.

Multi-Author Series Listings:

Authors often write in “multi-author series” which is a series with various different authors contributing. In this case, only that author’s books will display unless you have a “read” status on any others within that series. You can click “Show All Books in this Series” to expand the list and see all the books within it.

Biography:

Finally, we have the biography area which contains a lot of information about that author and their books. Here is what each biography covers:

Biography: Information about the author such as when and where they were born, schools they attended, their most popular series, and various interesting facts and notes about the author.

Awards & Accolades: A list of all prominent book awards the author and their books have been nominated for, or won.

Lists & Other Mentions: A list of all prominent book lists and book clubs in which the authors works have been featured.

TV/Movies Based On Books: A section covering any adaptations of the authors works.

Related Authors: This lists authors who are related to this author in terms of genre, topic, etc. If you like an author, be sure to check their “Related Authors” section to discover more authors you may like.

FAQ: A variety of frequently asked questions about the author. Each author has the same set of questions, and then there will be customized questions that apply only to that author.

Recently Featured In: If the author has been mentioned in any news or blog posts on Book Notification, this section will list them.

The author discussion area is our comment area for that author. You can leave comments about that author or their books on there, and chat about them with others.
