Hello, everyone, and welcome to Book Notification Weekly Picks. We launched a new feature today called Missing Data which lists books you have marked read, but not given a rating or read date to. You can also expand that to include start date, page count, and audiobook length. Check it out.
I saw someone say recently that there are no original ideas left, and how silly is that? I get what they mean; many stories have already been told, but it’s just wrong and silly to me. You can give ten people the same idea, the same characters, the same plot, and have ten completely different books. It’s all about the writer and how they use the idea.
Here’s an idea for a book. An older woman forms an unlikely bond with a new friend that changes her outlook on life. Sounds familiar, but this time the friend is an octopus. (This is the plot for the recent recommendation, Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt, by the way.) That’s a familiar story being told in a completely new way. The lesson is this: there are plenty of original ideas still out there, just add an octopus.
