Book Notification Weekly Picks: October 17th, 2025
[Read Online]

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to another edition of the weekly picks. I finished reading Barbara Kingsolver‘s The Poisonwood Bible, and went on the I Care About Books Book Club Podcast to talk about it. This was an incredible book, but one that I had difficulty reading. I tried to explain this on the podcast a bit, but it’s more about the way I read than anything else. I typically start a book, reading a couple of chapters on the first day, another couple on the next, and so on. Then, at some point, I’ll just get locked in and keep reading until I finish. Due to the length and subject matter of this book, I was never able to do that. I tried, especially as the podcast grew nearer, but it’s just not that type of book. It is a slow read, and best enjoyed that way. The way I typically read just didn’t fit. That episode should be uploaded on the weekend. The best thing about my second appearance on the podcast is that I was able to make the pick for October. I went with Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. This book has been on my to-be-read list for a long, long time, and I’m finally crossing it off. I admit that was only part of the reason I picked it, though. After reading a dense book that was over 500 pages, a classic under 300 pages sounded just right. That’s all I have for today. Go Mariners, and let’s get to the picks.
