Spring into Stories: April’s Best Book-to-Screen Adaptations

By: Graeme, March 29th, 2024 8:03 am.

With April here, we’ll be highlighting noteworthy TV and movie adaptations which are releasing this month.

In 2022, Sam McAlister, famous for the Prince Andrew interview in 2019, released the non-fiction book “Scoops”. This book would go behind the scenes for the most shocking interviews which took place at the BBC.

That has now been adapted to a movie, and will be releasing on Netflix on April 5th.

In 2017, Benjamin Woolley released the non-fiction novel “The King’s Assassin”, covering George Villiers and King James I, and their fatal affairs.

That has now been adapted to a 7 episode mini series which begins airing on April 5th. It is called Mary & George.

Apple TV+ always brings the hits, and that looks to be no different with Franklin. This adaptation is based on the 2005 non-fiction book “A Great Improvisation” by Stacy Schiff. Here is the trailer for Franklin which stars Michael Douglas:

April 2nd, 2024 will see the movie adaptation of Someone Like You by Karen Kingsbury. This is the 7th novel in the Baxter Family series, and is self-funded by Karen.

If you are a fan of Christian romance, be sure to check out Someone Like You.

An interesting adaptation is releasing on April 19th. It’s called The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and is based on the non-fiction novel of the same name by Damien Lewis. However this one is more of an action comedy, and looks good. Not sure how it will compare to the books in terms of adaptation, but it looks great:

Hollywood is going back to Patricia Highsmith and her Ripley series with a TV adaptation of “The Talented Mr. Ripley”. It’s called Ripley, stars Andrew Scott, and is releasing on Netflix this month.
