The month of August has one very notable adaptation hitting the big screen, and that is It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover.

It Ends With Us is a romance novel which was published in August 2016. It was a challenging book for Hoover to write, with her describing it as the most difficult book she has ever wrote up to that point, but it’s all been worth it.

The novel has been a blockbuster hit, selling over millions of copies. But it wasn’t until 2021 when it really took off. Colleen Hoover got the attention of the #Booktok Community and propelled this novel into newer heights. It’s topped many bestselling lists such as the New York Times and Publishers Weely lists, and in 2023 was the best selling novel.

A film adaptation of the book was optioned back in July 2019 by Justin Baldoni, and the movie will finally be released in theatres on August 9, 2024.

Produced by Columbia Pictures and directed by Justin Baldoni, the move stars Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, Brandon Sklenar and Jeny Slate.

Years later, Colleen Hoover also penned “It Starts With Us”, a sequel to the novel.

Harold and the Purple Crayon

“It Ends With Us” isn’t the only adaptation this month. Crockett Johnson wrote the Harold series of childrens books back in the late 50s and early 60s, and the first book in that series, “Harold and the Purple Crayon”, will see an adaptation this month.

It is being released on August 2nd, 2024. The cinema release stars Zachary Levi, Lil Rel Howery and Tanya Reynolds. It’s a combination of live action and animation, and is in the fantasy comedy genre.
