Welcome to the fourth edition of Ask a Librarian at Book Notification. We receive a wide range of questions daily, so we’ve started compiling them into this section to assist anyone else searching for the same answers.
Hosted and written by our Chief Librarian, Claire Davis.
Q: Is there going to be a fifth book in The End of Times series by Nate Johnson?
There was a fifth book planned in that series, titled Justice. It was initially scheduled for release on April 10, 2025.
Unfortunately, a couple of weeks prior to release, it was removed from all online bookstores and any pre-orders were refunded.
There has been no reason posted as to the cause of the removal. The author isn’t active on social media, and any comments on his inactive Facebook page have had no response. All we can do is suggest you follow Nate, and we can notify you if and when a fifth book releases in that series. We have reached out to the author and will update you if we hear anything.
Q: At the end of “Phantom Quartz “, the credits list the next Stacy Justice book by Barbra Annino as Jaded Witch. Would appreciate any information about that. Can’t find it anywhere to purchase, or confirm whether it has been or will be published.
That book is yet to be released. However, the author has confirmed that she is still writing, and in late May 2025, she stated on social media that there are “more books to come”. We know that the last intended release date was the Summer of 2022. You can follow Barbra to get notified of any new releases.
Q: I can’t seem to find the book New York to Tijuana by Penny Reid anywhere.
While this one is listed on websites such as Goodreads with a March 6th, 2013 release date, this book was never released. On the contrary, in 2016, the author stated that the book had yet to be published, as it required massive rewrites, and she had been distracted by new projects.
Spoilers for ‘Lilac Girls’ ahead
Q: I just finished reading Lilac Girls. It took me a long time to even pick it up 1) being it was so long and 2) being a war time story. Once I started reading it, I found it very enjoyable. One thing that really confused me was when Kasia was in the concentration camp and was finally able to receive packages was the part about her father sending her red thread. What was the purpose of that, or did I read over that part of the story?
Kasia sends a message to her Papa with a secret code in urine ink, which can only be read when held up to a heat source. Within that message, she asks if her Papa was able to read the message and, if so, to indicate this by sending back a spool of red thread, which he does.
Q: Where can I read the story Trouble on Reserve by Kim Harrison?
This story is available inside mass-market paperback versions of the next book in the series, Ever After, and is an alternate ending to that book. It was also initially pre-installed on the Sony eReader app. You can read it online at Wattpad.
