Welcome to the third edition of Ask a Librarian at Book Notification We receive a wide range of questions daily, so we’ve started compiling them into this section to assist anyone else searching for the same answers.
Hosted and written by our Chief Librarian, Claire Davis.
Q: What happened to “Charmed by the Sea Centaurs” by Wren K. Morris? My pre-order was cancelled. – Alma
The release date for this novel has been delayed. Wren posted on their Facebook on October 22nd, 2024, stating that the book had been delayed and pre-orders cancelled.
Wren had initially delayed the book until October 28th, as they felt the time setting wasn’t right and wanted to revise it. However, life got in the way as it does, and Wren stated they wouldn’t be happy with the version they had, as it “wouldn’t be the book you deserve”.
It’s still planned for release, but there is no set date yet.
Q: I no longer listen to the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child as we no longer have Dick Hill reading the books, but Scott Brick instead. Why would they change narrators???? – Mary
The reason the narrator for the Jack Reacher books changed is because Dick Hill retired. Sadly, the multiple Audie award-winning narrator passed away shortly after retiring on October 4th, 2022.
Q: I’m finding conflicting dates of publication online for Jack Heath’s book “Kill Your Brother”—not sure if you are aware and/or can resolve it! You’ve got 2021. Amazon says 2021 and 2024, and the publisher says 2023 – Olivia
Our research can confirm that the book was released in 2021. In addition, it was a nominee for ‘Best Crime Novel’ at the Ned Kelly Awards in 2022, which lists books from the prior year.
Q: Is there any word when T C Edge’s seventh book in the Bladeborn Saga will be released? – sandy
On October 11th, 2024, T C Edge posted an update on the book’s status. While it was expected to be released this year, it has been delayed until next year and is expected in the first quarter of 2025.
They noticed that at that point, there were over 300,000 words written; however, there was still a lot to go, as it would be another “big-boned behemoth” of a book.
And the plan for the saga is still for it to be wrapped up within eight books.
Q: Is Charles Todd writing at all anymore? I had read that there was a new Ian Rutledge book written and waiting for an estate settlement to be released and also that he was writing another Bess Crawford book. Do you have any information about that? – eugene
For those unaware, Charles Todd is a pseudonym used by both Charles Todd and his mother, Caroline Todd – both of which are pseudonyms for their real names. However his mother passed away in August 2021.
Charles (real name David Watjen) posted in February 2024 that there was a holdup due to his mother’s estate settlement. He later stated that the settlement issues were resolved in May, and the latest Rutledge book was sent to his agent. He also indicated that he is working on the latest Bess Crawford novel.
There have been no updates since, but we are expected to see the latest books in both series in 2025.
Q: Did Elizabeth Penney write a book titled “A Deadly Game”? There seems to be no information about it online and it’s not on her website – Linda
Yes she did. It is exclusive to the website AnniesFiction.com and is available in Hardcover and eBook format. As far as we can see, it is a standalone novel, although it is part of the “Hearts in Peril” romantic suspense book club there.
It was published in 2023. Different ISBNs we have seen listed for it are:
9798892532013
9781640256545
However, we couldn’t find them on the ISBNDB.
Q: What’s the process for getting an out-of-print book back into circulation?
A cliff notes summary would be:
- Determine who owns the copyright for the book
- Contact them and obtain the rights to the work or negotiate a new publishing agreement
- You could then use the original publisher, a different publisher, or self-publish
If it’s a book that an author has written that you are looking to obtain a copy of, the first step would be to attempt to contact the author directly and, failing that, the publishing company they used.
Q: Which book has Lucas Davenport’s Top 100 Rock Songs of All Time in it? – Jerri
That would be “Broken Prey” by John Sandford.
Here is the complete list, organized by artist. Although it’s backwards, because, as John writes – “any decent road trip starts with ZZ Top”. We also created a Spotify Playlist with all of the songs.
