Crimefest is a convention which started in 2008, and is hosted in Bristol in England. It has ran through 2025, with 2025 being announced as the final year of Crimefest.

CrimeFest was initially created after the American Left Coast Crime hosted their convention in Bristol back in 2006. The UK hosts of that event started up Crimefest soon after.

There have been numerous different awards over the years. It started in 2008 with just two awards, which were for the Sounds of Crime Award for best audiobook – broken down to unabridged and abridged – and the Last Laugh award, which celebrated the best humorous crime novel.

It would expand to include the eDunnit Award for best crime fiction ebook in 2010, and the H.R.F. Keating Award for best biographical or critical book related to crime fiction in 2015.

Here is a list of all of the Crimefest Awards since its inauguration:

Crimefest Awards F.A.Q.

When did the Debut Crime Novel Award begin?

Sponsored by Specsavers, this award started in 20020 with Laura Shepherd-Robinson as the first winner for her novel Blood & Sugar..

Is there Crimefest awards related to adaptations?

Yes there is. In 2023 for example, there was the Thalia Proctor Memorial Award for Best Adapted TV Crime Drama which featured the likes of “Reacher”, “Shetland” and “Show Horses”. Due to these awards not always being based on specific books, any information about the awards is reserved for the biographical area of each authors page.

Why are the Crimefest awards ending in 2025?

There is no specific reason – it’s just the decision of the organizers to end the Crimefest awards. The co-hosts, Donna Moore and Adrian Muller, have hinted at something new beginning in the future.
