Novels like Kill Shot do a great job of humanizing this alpha male character, showing a much more human and fallible side of him. It makes him seem more like a real person and making the reader that much more inclined to root for him. And the villains are easy to root against.
The plotting is also rapid, fun, and exciting. Vince Flynn can quickly and succinctly describe something so the pace never dips, which is something that seems to elude most other authors.
And the ending the novel was building up to the entire time is just real, fast, and violent.
I was waiting for the next David Baldacci novel to come out when I read Term Limits by Vince Flynn and was instantly hooked. I would then read what I think is Flynn’s best ever work in American Assassin which introduces Mitch Rapp my favorite spy. Vince Flynn truly knows how to catch his readers interest and once I was done reading I was sad. This for me is a sign that the author knows how to tell a story. I have since read some of his other great works and particularly enjoyed Kill Shot. Comparing American Assassin the movie to the book, I noticed several plot changes in the movie even though much of Mitch Rapp’s world remained intact. The movie combined the character styles of Jack Reacher and James Bond to make a Rapp that is best described as a tough guy provocateur that is played by Dylan O’Brien.
I was so sad at his passing. The Mitch Rapp series is so great. Kyle Mills however has did a fantastic job of continuing on. Rest assured Vince; your successor is doing you proud.
I think I’m addicted to Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series books. Before watching the American Assassin-based movie, I decided to read the entire series. Mitch Rapp series is an enjoyable, fast-paced, chilling, and intense spy thriller. I liked the lots of twists and turns and the plenty of actions. Mitch Rapp has just lost his girlfriend in cruel terrorism, and he starts living for only one purpose, revenge. I liked Rapp’s intriguing and interesting character and his drive for vengeance. In Term Limits three of Washington’s most powerful politicians are assassinated through surgical procedures. I was impressed by its despicable characters and how the novel plot was well constructed. It seems Vince Flynn has good knowledge of the corruption in Washington politics.
While is it possible to look at Mitch Rapp an over-the-top parody of right-wing America, I am able to look beyond that surface presentation and get to the thrills and adventure that the books deliver. Even Vince Flynn’s death couldn’t stop the machine that is Mitch Rapp from preventing terrorist attacks around the globe (and at home too). With Kyle Mills coming on to write the last few volumes, the series shows no signs of slowing down, and I look forward to seeing Rapp delivery his brand of justice for a while to come. There was an adaptation of one of Flynn’s books, but it couldn’t capture the rawness or edge of the books at all. Here’s hoping someone gets it right one day.
A little while ago, my friends and I couldn’t help but wonder why it had taken so long to bring Mitch Rapp to the big screen. A world that had embraced 24’s Jack Bauer would love Mitch Rapp.
Mitch is everything 24 stood for, an elite operative that does whatever it takes to protect America from terrorists. But then I remembered ‘American Assassin’ from 2017, in which Dylan O’Brien played Mitch Rapp.
Don’t get me wrong. I did not hate the adaptation. In fact, if you took away my history with Vince Flynn’s work, I would have enjoyed the movie. But as a longtime Mitch Rapp fan, I don’t think the adaptation did the books justice. We need a new Mitch Rapp adaptation.
I love how well Kyle Mills transitioned Vince Flynn novels. I honestly couldn’t tell. It wasn’t until I googled Vince Flynn that I found he had passed. I love all the stories. Makes for a great read!
Completely agree. I like that he brought back numerous older characters etc and really stayed true to the universe Vince created.
