Travis Barker

Travis Barker (Travis Landon Barker) was born on November 14th, 1975 and is currently 50 years old. Travis Barker was born in Fontana, California, USA.

Travis Barker is the drummer for blink-182 and has been called “punk’s first superstar drummer”, and been called one of the best drummers of all time by Rolling Stone.

He started drumming at an early age. Travis got his first drum set when he was 4, and it was the only one he’d have until he was 15. At the age of 5, he began taking drum lessons from Michael Mai, who exposed young Travis to so many different types of playing styles.

Travis tried learning piano and trumpet, briefly tried singing, joining the choir. He also was interested in becoming a professional surfer and skateboarder. But he would always migrate back to the drums. It was a direction he was connected to and understand. He could express himself better through drums than anything else.

He started playing for The Aquabats in 1996, however he left so that he could join blink-182 in 1998, which encountered mainstream success with their third album, called Enema of the State.

Travis established himself as a versatile drummer, producing and making guest appearances in musical projects of numerous genres including pop, alternative rock, hip hop, and country.

Besides blink-182, he’s also co-founded +44, has been a member of Transplants, and joined Gldfinger, Box Car Racer, and Antemasque, and collaborated with hip hop artists. He was also part of TRV$DJAM, with DJ AM.

Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums is Travis’ soul-baring memoir that chronicles the lowlights and highlights of his life and art, including the harrowing plane crash which nearly killed him and his traumatic road to recovery, a fascinating never before told in full story of personal reinvention grounded in fatherhood and musical salvation.

After breaking out as the acclaimed drummer of blink-182, it all changed for him. However the dark side of rock stardom took its toll: his marriage, which had been chronicled on an MTV reality series, fell apart. Constant touring concealed his serious drug addiction. A reckoning didn’t truly come for him until he was forced to face mortality: his life almost ended because of a horrifying plane crash, and his close friend, collaborator, and fellow crash survivor DJ AM died of an overdose.

In a driving and blunt memoir, he ruminates on fatherhood, loss, death, stardom, and redemption, sharing stories shaped by decades’ worth of hard-earned insights. His pulsating memoir is just as energetic as some of his acclaimed beats. It brings to a close the first chapters of a well lived life, inspiring readers to follow the rhythms of their own hearts and find some meaning in their lives.
