Todd Oldham
Todd Oldham (Jacky Todd Oldham) was born on October 22nd, 1961 and is currently 63 years old. Todd Oldham was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA.
Todd Oldham is a designer from the United States who founded
Todd Oldham Studios and
L-7 Designs Inc. He would make a name for himself for his unconventional approach to style and fashion through his interior designs, fashion lines, books, and TV appearances.
Like many proteges, he knew what he wanted to do while he was still very young. Aged just 15, he came up with his first design when he took some pillowcases which he made into a dress.
After he graduated from high school he moved to Dallas, Texas where he got a job working in the
Polo Ralph Lauren alterations department. It was at this time that his parents lent him $50 with which he got 41 yards of cotton jersey which he designed into a collection that
Neiman Marcus bought from him.
In 1981, he showed his first collection while living in Dallas, Texas. By 1989 he had his first clothing line and in 1991 he won the
Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent from the Council of Fashion Designers. Between 1995 and 1997, Oldham worked for
Escada as a creative consultant.
In addition to producing fashion, Todd Oldham designed home accessories and furniture for
La-Z-Boy Furniture and worked for
Old Navy as creative director. In 1999, he famously designed
The Hotel of South Beach.
Oldham is also known for his work on TV as host of the
House of Style segment and
Fashionably Loud on MTV between 1993 and 1999. He has also guest starred on
The Nanny where he portrayed himself.
Todd Oldham has also published books, many of which have become very popular. In 2004, he published
Obscene Interiors, his second work.
This is a collection of photographs that the author got from personal ads on the internet about interior decorating that he then puts under close investigation. He critiques the dated, kitschy interior designs which he calls obscene for how shockingly bad they are.
In 2005, Oldham published
Handmade Modern, which is a collection of seventy two projects you can do by yourself at home or in the office.
Todd offers step by step instructions and photographs in which he shares his passion for mid-century homes in retro and modern design. The projects include cozy shoe storage systems, computer face lifts, aluminum lighting fixtures and Xerox wallpaper. It also comes with tutorials on modern home design in the form of short essays and sidebars.
Joan Jett is a work that Todd Oldham published in 2010 that offers insights into
Joan Jett & the Runaways.
The author takes you to the beginnings of the group in addition to some insights into the club scene in Los Angeles and how the group made of teenagers changed Rock & Roll forever. She chronicles how Joan struggled to form the band and what it took to keep it together.
