Thomas J. Colbert
Thomas J. Colbert is a writer, consultant, producer, and former media executive.
Before working as a consultant, he was story researcher at Paramount Pictures and CBS and founded the media service Industry R&D.
He spent his early career as a story researcher for KCBS-TV in Los Angeles and then with
Hard Copy.
After he spent 12 years in the business, he founded the true story tip service Industry R&D. He used his national network of contacts in order to collect together high profile stories from local media and sell it to TV and motion picture production companies. Tips generated by him became films and books including Boys Don’t Cry, The Vow, Baby Brokers, and Fly Away Home.
Through his
The Last Master Outlaw, he identified a main suspect as Robert W. Rackstraw Sr. However, right before he and his team was set to turn in all of its circumstantial evidence to the Cooper FBI case agent, the Seattle Division canceled their long planned meeting and later said the FBI considered the DB Cooper case to be closed.
The Last Master Outlaw: The Award Winning Conclusion of the D. B. Cooper Mystery tells the story of how in 1971, this skyjacker with a briefcase bomb demanded a ransom of $200,000 and a parachute. Then he disappeared out of the jet’s back door and became an instant legend. Now a determined citizen sleuth has put together a 40 member cold case team, which is spearheaded by ex-FBI agents, in order to solve the DB Cooper Mystery. And after their 5 year long quest, they believe that they’ve succeeded with a fugitive at the trail’s end.
The team’s relentless investigation and final confrontation with the mystery man serve as bookends in this book. The astonishing life story of this subject as a daredevil fills up the remaining chapters, the bulk of which comes from the gut-wrenching and heartwarming accounts of 6 of his women (his only sister, 2 ex-wives, a befriended college coed, a getaway gal that he met up with during two additional FBI escapes, and a Hollywood producer that was also his cocaine trade partner).
Buckle up while this Jekyll-and-Hyde ladies’ man travels through 5 countries, utilizing over a dozen identities, fake mustaches, and wigs as he engages in a half-dozen careers and raising three whole families. Then be a witness while this cornered chameleon becomes forced to face the truth in front of the cameras of a dogged cold case team, which was armed and prepared for any eventuality.
This book was adapted into a History Channel documentary which Colbert executive produced.
