Born to Manage. It seemed inevitable that Terry Venables would enter management after more than a decade of playing football, including successes at Chelsea and Spurs in the 1960s. He was hired as manager of Barcelona after experiencing early success with Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers.
The team had been struggling, but Venables quickly turned things around and brought them trophies which earned him the nickname 'El Tel.' He later returned to England to manage Spurs, where he helped the club recover from financial problems and worked with Alan Sugar. There was more success, with Venables guiding top England players like Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker, and Chris Waddle.
When the England manager position became available, he was the natural choice, leading the team to the semi-finals of Euro 96, where they lost in a penalty shoot-out. After leaving the England job, Venables worked in many different roles.
