Jumped into Bombshell just for a bit of quick reading, and it was a fantastic read that had me hooked, and the wonderful twists and turns throughout kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat for the entire wild ride. Keeps you wondering how the different paths of the story are going to converge on each other.
From there I read more about Teddy Fay, who knows how to deal with a threat, and one of my favorite characters. He’s a buckle your seat belt, hang onto your hat sort of guy, and completely the opposite from Stone Barrington.
I started reading Stuart Woods’ novels when I got my hands on a copy of Reckless Abandon. I have to confess that it was not until I learned that I had to read the Stone Barrington series in order that I became obsessed. I decided to not read any more titles until I had several of the books in order starting from the first. I am now glad that I had the patience to start from the beginning as I can now look forward to new releases of these excellent thrillers. Over the years reading the works of Stuart, I have found that his dialogue flows more naturally in recent works. Reading New York Dead and comparing it to Foul Play, it is clear that Woods has changed his writing style a lot but still retained the quirky humor and excellent characterization. All around, Woods is an expert at putting together a captivating and exciting mystery.
Stuart Woods has been one of the great suspense fiction authors for a while now. Don’t leave him out if you are looking for another mystery author to add to your list. Woods has an excellent way of explaining things to the reader through the characters’ observations and conversations. I loved the beginning of the Stone Barrington series. I can’t believe what I was missing out on Stuart Woods. The series has a lot of suspense, and even though everyone isn’t a suspect, you’ll wonder who to trust in the end. I liked Stone; he is a great, smart cop turned lawyer. The Holy Barker series was also thrilling with well fleshed characters.
Stuart Woods long-running Stone Barrington series has been one of my favorites for a while now. I was introduced to his work through the Will Lee series, and quickly became a fan. By reading the Barrington series it also allows you to meet Woods’ characters from his other series, like Holly Barker or Teddy Fay. Although Woods prodigious output may put off some readers, know that no matter which book you pick up it will be up to the usual high-thriller standards of Woods writing.
My interest in Stuart Woods began when I discovered his passion for sailing. I went down a sailing rabbit hole one random night. His name came up in a forum. I enjoyed reading about his journey as an aspiring sailor. From what I discovered, he wrote a book chronicling his OSTAR exploits.
I had every intention of buying and reading it. But Stuart’s crime thrillers have kept me busy. The man is definitely talented. I wonder what life would have been like for him if he had stuck to sailing. From what I read, he started writing to fund his boating dreams.
Though, I’m not 100 percent sure whether that is true. I read his biography months ago. These days, I spend more time talking about his crime thrillers than I do the author’s boating adventures.
Hopefully Brett will bring more to the table than Stuart did in his later books. I’ve always enjoyed Stuart’s books (especially the Stone Barrington series) but the later books became too formulaic and ho-hum. Would also like to see continuation of the Holly Barker and Teddy Fay series.
I have read all of Stuart Woods books and enjoyed all the escapades each of his characters endured. The Barrington series gave me lots of laughs as well as keeping me wondering about the ending. I will give Brett Battles a chance to live up to Stuart Woods writing but he will have large shoes to fit into. On many occasions I took the opportunity to email Mr. Woods as suggested in his acknowledgment and he always answered me back so we had some nice correspondence about his story and characters. I must note that his best achievement in my opinion is his book CHIEFS. It was his first and best by far.
I used to read all the Stuart Woods novels and was hooked by the characters and plots. The books were a series, so you understood them better if you read them in order. The last few years of his writing the books seemed to focus more on sexual acts and depicting women as objects. I quit reading them. In my humble opinion this is an author who is done and he needs to hang up his pen and not have anyone writing under his name. It is my understanding he passed away not long ago.
I’ve read all the books in the Stone Barrington series (through Foreign Affairs). Stuart Woods added Stone’s son and his friends as characters in this series a few books earlier. But in this one they become main characters and I think it hurts the series more than it helps. *Stuart Woods has since passed away, may he rest in peace.
