The Des Moines Register as a sports reporter. Then he hosted a sports talk show on KXNO AM and later hosted an evening drive talk show on WHO AM. Steve, while he was at WHO, endorsed and gave some air time to Mike Huckabee during the 2008 Iowa caucuses, which helped Huckabee win the state’s presidential primary. Then in 2010, he helped the successful campaign to defeat 3 members of the Iowa Supreme Court that approved same-sex marriage.
Steve left WHO in 2011 so that he could host The Steve Deace Show, on Truth Radio Network. Later, Salem Radio Network picked up his show and moved it into primetime.
He was a major critic of Mitt Romney during the 2012 election cycle. Citing Mitt’s changing positions on numerous political issues, and didn’t support Mitt in either the primary or general elections that year.
