He was a pioneering comedian, entertainer, songwriter, and author active in theatre, motion pictures radio, and television. His work on The Tonight Show would become the standard on which TV talk shows were judged.

Allen’s parents used to perform a vaudeville act since her father was a singer and her mother was a comedian. Unfortunately, his father died when he was still young and he had to move in with his mother’s family in Chicago. There, he made his mark as a radio actor before becoming a radio announcer in 1942.

He started hosting a late-night radio show in Los Angeles in 1948. The show offered Steve Allen an opportunity to showcase his ad-libbed repartee and spontaneous humor. He would become so good at this that he continued to use it to make some of the most popular talk shows.

Steve Allen became one of the most prominent persons on TV during the 1950s when he began appearing on What’s My Line, the CBS game show in addition to The Steve Allen Show. It was during this time that he began hosting a late-night show on NBC that would then become The Tonight Show.

Outside of his work on TV, he was also an accomplished author, actor, composer, and musician. In that regard, he has played himself in several films including the 1955 released The Benny Goodman Story. He has also written more than 50 works on themes of humor, politics, music, and social criticism.

Dale gets even more frustrated as the body count rises, even as the FBI is insisting that he needs to drop the case or else…

In 1989, Allen published Murder on the Glitter Box in which he is the lead. Asked to fill in for Terry Cole the talk show host for a fortnight, things begin to pop off when one of Steve’s guests ends up dead on stage. It does seem that the drink he offered his guest which he took from the show’s stash was poisoned.

Murder in Vegas is a novel that Steve Allen published in 1991. In this work, Steve gets called to do a show in Vegas with a friend. But his friend’s family is a mess and shortly after his arrival in the city, there is a double murder that his friend is suspected of committing.
