Sleep Token
Sleep Token is a rock band from London that formed in 2016. Known for their secrecy, the members perform wearing masks and keep their identities hidden. Their first EP,
One, was self-released in 2016. They followed it up with
Two in 2017 after signing with Basick Records, then joined Spinefarm Records to release their debut full-length album,
Sundowning, in 2019, followed by
This Place Will Become Your Tomb in 2021.
Sleep Token is celebrated not only for their genre-blending sound but also for their deeply immersive and enigmatic aesthetic. So it's no surprise that they’ve ventured into storytelling through a graphic novel. But fans eager to uncover more about the band’s hidden lore or the identities of its members may be disappointed—
Teeth of God offers no direct answers.
Instead, the graphic novel presents a cryptic, apocalyptic horror story with a cosmic twist. It contains no spoken or written dialogue, relying entirely on stunning visuals divided into four chapters. At the end of each chapter, a brief, eerie note from an unknown narrator adds just enough context to stir the imagination.
Familiar elements from Sleep Token’s universe appear throughout, including terrifying figures from the
Take Me Back to Eden music videos. The hooded figure from the title track and the monstrous entity from “The Summoning” make striking appearances during some of the most intense moments in the comic.
Teeth of God is intentionally vague and surreal, much like the band itself. New or casual fans might find it difficult to follow, but for those who enjoy dark, cerebral sci-fi horror—think Annihilation, Bloodborne, or Dead Space—this work delivers a haunting and emotionally charged experience.
What truly sets the graphic novel apart is its artwork. The limited color palette, grotesque creature designs, and warped, nightmarish faces perfectly evoke the mood of cosmic dread. The splash pages are especially breathtaking—so much so that it’s surprising they haven’t been released as posters.
Another standout feature is the pacing. Telling a story without dialogue is a bold choice, but the chapter breaks and cryptic notes provide enough rhythm and grounding to keep the reader engaged. The narrative is loosely connected to Sleep Token’s mythos but strong enough to stand alone as a haunting tale of emotional collapse and apocalyptic wonder. It ends with a sense of ambiguity, offering no resolution—but plenty of atmosphere, symbolism, and raw feeling to linger with the reader.
