Simon Amstell
Simon Amstell (Simon Marc Amstell) was born on November 29th, 1979 and is currently 45 years old. Simon Amstell was born in Gants Hill, London, England.
Simon Amstell is best known as a television presenter and comedian. He was famously the host of
Never Mind the Buzzcocks, the comedic panel where he replaced the very popular Mark Lamarr.
Amstell spent his childhood in the London neighborhood of
Gants Hill. He was a determined and lively chap who first appeared on TV in 1993 as a contestant on
GamesMaster, the Channel 4 game show. While he did not win the game show, he never gave up and would ultimately do an impression of Dame Edna Everage on
Good Morning with Anne and Nick.
While acting on
Family Catchphrase in 1994, he called himself a fledgling magician and showed Andrew O’Connor the presenter some of his magic tricks. For his efforts, he won a video recorder and a television set for his family.
Simon Amstell was just thirteen years old when he began going on the comedy circuit. In 1998, he would become the youngest finalist of the
New Comedy Awards by the BBC after he caught the eye of TV executives.
Simon made his professional debut on TV later in 1998 when he debuted on Nickelodeon's children's channel as a presenter. He would then make his name as a quirky interviewer as he co-hosted
Popworld, where he was known for discussing controversial personal items with show guests.
Simon Amstell published his debut work
Help in 2017.
The work is a heartbreaking and hilarious account of the author’s ongoing desire to reveal who he is onstage. He believes that by telling the truth about his life, the depression, anxiety, and loneliness will no longer have power over him.
The book follows his complex childhood from Essex to the Amazon rainforest in an Ayahuasca-led epiphany. It chronicles his journey starting his standup comedy journey at thirteen, his parents, divorce, and a very confusing period of puberty.
