Sean Faircloth
Sean Faircloth is known as a politician, attorney, and author from Maine.
It was in 1992 that Faircloth first got elected to the House of Representatives in Maine. In 2006-2008, he served in the House as the Majority Whip and was on critical committees such as Appropriations and Judiciary.
Due to his leadership, he helped realize the dream of the
Maine Discovery Museum, which opened its doors in 2001. Sean Faircloth took on important contemporary issues such as mental health, obesity, and child safety.
He worked on safety commissions on sex crimes and child abuse, and from 2009 to 2011, he worked for the
Secular Coalition for America as executive director. During his time there, he supported nontheistic voices and advocated for strict separation of church and state.
He has also served on the Bangor City Council, where, as chairman, he worked to raise the minimum wage and bring jobs to the region. In 2025, he ran in a special election and won more than 70% of the vote to get back in the Maine House of Representatives.
In 2016, Sean Faircloth published his debut fiction work,
The Enchanted Globe, which tells the story of Brendan Ryan, his brother, and Gabrielle, their friend. The three found a golden object in the woods of Maine, which warns them of a creature named McGrab that is hellbent on conquering the planet. They travel on a sphere on a magical quest through the earth’s crust through strange lands, fast-rising islands, and strange lakes as they solve cryptic puzzles left behind by the creature. Every adventure brings discovery and danger, as it also teaches them about themselves. Ultimately, they go back home to fight McGrab, with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance.
Earlier in 2011, Sean had published the nonfiction work
Attack of Theocrats in which he explored religious fundamentalism in American politics. Sean Faircloth believes that theocratic Congress members and their allies are very influential, and this could threaten the separation of church and state. He also examines how laws at both the federal and state levels privilege religion, resulting in educational, social, and financial harm for Americans. He showcases how key politicians hold extreme views, even as he presents a 10-point plan to protect democratic freedoms and restore the secular foundations of the United States.
