Sarah Edmondson

Edmondson attended Concordia University, Montreal where they received a BFA in Theatre Performance.

Sarah Edmondson is an actress and podcaster. She’s best known for her supporting roles on Hallmark Channel, and as a voice actress, most notably as Lina in the Bratz films and in Geronimo Stilton playing Thea Stilton.

She’s also a playwright. She performed her first play, a solo show titled "Dead Bird," at the Chutzpah Festival in 2005.

Sarah has performed in a variety of YTV programs which include Student Bodies, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Big Wolf on Campus, Big Wolf on Campus, as well as in series like Continuum, Stargate SG-1, Andromeda, and Edgemont. She was nominated for the Leo Awards in the Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Short Drama for her role in Sparklelite Motel in 2007.

Sarah is a former member of NXIVM, a now-defunct sex cult and pyramid scheme that Keith Raniere founded. In 2017, she left the group and confirmed the longstanding criticism that NXIVM operated as a cult. The resulting exposé in the New York Times of its abusive practices precipitated the downfall of its leaders and the organization as a whole.

She says that she was invited into “DOS” and was branded with the initials of Allison Mack and Keith Raniere at Allison’s home in Albany. At the time, she and other DOS members were informed that the brand was derived from ancient symbols to represent the combination of the elements.

Scarred follows Sarah’s account of her recruitment into the NXIVM cult, founded by Keith Raniere. It narrates in full detail the 12 years she spent inside the organization, during which she enrolled more than 2,000 members, chronicling her breaking point and her harrowing fight to get out, help others, and heal.

It’s complete with personal photographs, in a tell-all that follows Sarah from the moment she takes her first NXIVM seminar, to the invitation she accepts from Lauren Salzman (her best friend), into DOS, this secret sisterhood inside the cult, to her journey toward becoming a key witness in the federal case against its founders.

Listeners will learn how cults like this get started, why people become involved (and stay), and the importance of whistleblowers who expose unethical and illegal practices.

This is not just about NXIVM. It’s also a tale about abuses of power, the role that female friendships play in cults, and how sometimes the quest for “better” can override everything else.

It’s a thrilling listen for fans of cults and true crime.
