Samantha Bee

Samantha Bee (Samantha Ann Bee) was born on October 25th, 1969 and is currently 55 years old. Samantha Bee was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Bee attended the University of Ottawa where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She also attended McGill University and George Brown College.

Samantha Bee is a writer, political commentator, television host, actress, producer, and comedian.

She rose to fame working as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, where she became the longest serving regular correspondent. Up until Kristen Schaal joined the show in 2008, she was also the only female correspondent the show had.

After 12 years, she left in order to start Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, which lasted until 2022.

Samantha was at the University of Ottawa, and signed up for a theatre class, believing that it’d be easy. It led to her finding her love of performing. She would enroll in the George Brown Theatre School in Toronto.

Samantha began auditioning for acting roles while working as a waitress in Toronto. She toured with a stage production of Sailor Moon where she played the titular role.

Samantha was one of the four founding members of The Atomic Fireballs, which were all women. They would attempt to perform as many of each other’s ideas as possible, to demonstrate mutual support.

Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in their 2017 Time 100 list.

I Know I Am, But What Are You? is made up of some laugh loud funny, candid, and outspoken essays from Samantha.

There is a so much more to be said about Samantha than just vicious, sweet, and adorable. She is Canadian, whatever that means. Now, she opens up for the very first time about this checkered past as a Canadian. With charming candor, she admits to her Lennie (from Of Mice and Men) style love of baby animals, the fact that strangers seem compelled to show her their genitals, and a teen crime spree as one-half of this car thieving couple (like Bonnie and Clyde in braces and Bermuda shorts). Samantha also details her intriguing career history, including stints working at a penis clinic, a frame store, and as a Japanese anime character in this touring kids show.

She dives into each of these topics and so many more in an unabashedly frank and thoroughly hilarious collection of personal essays. Whether detailing the creepiness which ensues when strangers assume that your mom’s your lesbian lover, or recalling this girlhood crush she had on Jesus (who sang like Kenny Loggins and looked like Kris Kristofferson), she turns the spotlight on her own imperfect but highly entertaining life as ruthlessly skewers hapless interview subjects on The Daily Show.
