As an author, he has produced novels in different genres, beginning with her debut work A Congregation of Jackals, which he published in 2010. His writing became known for how the narrative combined several genres while having very vivid storytelling.

In addition to working in the literary and movie fields, S. Craig Zahler is also a musician. Performing as Czar, he has been a vocalist and drummer in the metal bands Realmbuilder and Charnel Valley.

The work is all about the Plugfords, who will do anything to rescue two kidnapped sisters who have been taken hostage by a pimp. As they travel through the badlands, they have to deal with moral decay and escalating violence that culminates in an explosive climax.

A year later, S. Craig got into dystopian science fiction as he published the novel Corpus Chrome, Inc.

The work is set in a future world in which Corpus Chrome, Inc. is a company that has come up with a way of transplanting the brains of the dead into robotic bodies, which are then brought to life.

The story follows several people who could not be any more different, even as they are all affected by the new technology. But things come to a head when the company announces that it will soon be resurrecting convicted serial killer and rapist W.R. Dulande.

The same year, S. Craig Zahler published Mean Business on North Ganson Street, a work that tells the story of a detective sent to a decaying and violent city in Missouri, when a suspect in his charge commits suicide.

In Missouri, Bettinger is working with a disgraced officer as they look into the killings of two police officers. As they confront corruption and investigate the seedy underworld, they stumble upon a deeper conspiracy that may reveal some dark truths and force him to confront his past.
