Rosanne Cash
Rosanne Cash was born on May 4th, 1955 and is currently 71 years old. Rosanne Cash was born in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. Cash attended Vanderbilt University and the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.
Rosanne Cash is the daughter of Johnny Cash, the country music legend, and Vivian Liberto, his first wife. Rosanne spent a lot of her childhood in Southern California, where her family had moved in 1959.
Exposed to the eclectic sounds of Joni Mitchell and The Beatles, to Jefferson Airplane and Buffalo Springfield as a child, Cash at first wanted nothing to do with country music as an adult.
While she had much respect for artists such as Merle Haggard and Patsy Cline, she loved to think of them as part of her parents’ world. After graduating from high school, she started touring with her father.
It was during this time that she discovered Emmylou Harris, who made her fall in love with the genre once again, and she began writing songs.
Cash’s early career started with a self-titled album that got
Columbia Records interested enough that she was offered a contract.
Over about 10 years, she released half a dozen albums produced by Rodney Crowell that achieved commercial and critical success.
But despite the success, Roseanne Cash did not feel a connection with her music, as all she wanted was to express herself through songwriting. In 1990, she released a deeply personal album titled
Interiors, as she focused on music that reflected her experiences and life.
As an accomplished writer, she has put out essays for the likes of
Rolling Stone and
The New York Times. She has also been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and won the AFTRA/SAG Lifetime Achievement Award.
Showcasing her multiple talents, Roseanne Cash published her memoir
Composed in 2010. This is a lyrical memoir in which she reflects on her complicated relationships with her parents, her early career under
Columbia Records.
Cash looks back at her marriage to Rodney Crowell, her move to New York, even as she discusses loss, motherhood, and working with John Leventhall, her husband. She also offers insights into personal fulfilment, songwriting, and grief.
Roseanne Cash published her first picture book,
Penelope Jane, in 2000. It is the story of Penelope Jane de la Fesser, a tiny French fairy who lives in the dresser drawer of Carrie, a five-year-old who is her best friend.
With a desire to experience human education, she sneaks into Carrie’s classroom, where her antics cause chaos. Thankfully, Penelope’s bravery and quick thinking helped prevent disaster, which makes her a hero.
Bodeis of Water is a work that Roseanne Cash published in 1996. It is a collection of short stories that use emotional depth and lyrical prose to explore significant moments in the lives of women.
Drawing inspiration from personal experiences and a range of narrative forms such as prose poems and epistolary tales, she delves into the intricacies of the inner worlds of her characters.
