Robert Zubrin is an American author and aerospace engineer who is also the President of an aerospace research and development company from Lakewood, Colorado Pioneer Astronautics. He is also a former staffer at the Denver-based Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.

Over the years, Zubrin invented many innovative space exploration and propulsion concepts. He has also published more than 200 technical papers in his field and was part of the scenario development team at Lockheed Martin. He was involved in developing a strategy that significantly reduced the cost of the exploration of Mars.

Zubrin developed a reputation as a very creative engineer and his work has been critically acclaimed by the likes of The BBC, The Economist, NPR, The New York Times, CNN, and The Boston Globe among many other publications. In addition to that he has five patents with five more still pending.

In 1996, he founded Pioneer Astronautics and has been involved in the research and development of a range of systems and technology. He has been involved in the improvement or development of launch vehicle propulsion systems, robotic exploration, and EVA life support systems.

Robert Zubrin published First Landing in 2001 as the first of his standalone works of fiction. In this work, five people are chosen to undergo a landmark mission to Mars and are set to be the first people to walk the Red Planet. But their findings result in political upheaval and controversy and when public opinion turns against the mission the team is left stranded by the inefficient government

The Holy Land is a work that Robert Zubrin published in 2003. In this work, the Minervans are saved from oppression when they are relocated to Kennewick, Washington by the Western Galactic Empire. However, the rabid conservatives who rule the US hate the presence of the Minervans in their capital and send them into miserable refugee camps. However, the play to elicit sympathy for the Minervans backfires as the policymakers of the Western Galactic Empire will not respond to blackmail.
