Robert Jordan: TV/Movies Based on Books
The Wheel of Time is Robert Jordan's most famous work and it was finally adapted into a television show in 2021. The series premiered on Amazon Prime Video and was developed by Rafe Judkins. It stars Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred, Daniel Henney as al'Lan Mandragoran, and Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al'Meara.
The series had been in development for years before it was finally adapted. In 2000, NBC optioned the rights but nothing ever went forward from there. In 2004, Jordan sold his rights to the family to a production company called Red Eagle Entertainment. There was a failed pilot in 2015, but then no movement until 2017. Eventually that became The Wheel of Time series that premiered on Amazon Prime Video.
When the series debuted it was one of the most watched Prime Video premieres of all-time. According to Nielsen it was the second most watched season of an Amazon original in history. The books also got a big boost from the debut of the series as The Eye of the World re-entered the Best Seller list. The show was quickly renewed for a second season.
