I hated Vampire Academy. It is probably the worst YA live-action property I have ever encountered. The books are another matter. I can’t be the only one who despises the word ‘Dhampir.’ It’s dumb, and the fact that it comes from real-life folktales doesn’t change anything.

That being said, Mead’s book series is awesome. I rolled my eyes the first time I saw the cover because the first novel looked like any other Twilight rip-off, and I’ve read enough of those to last me a lifetime.

But you know what? Rose is far better than Bella, and once I realized that I liked her as a protagonist, I knew that I would enjoy the rest of this series. I was right.
