Rachael Denhollander
Rachael Denhollander was born on December 8th, 1984 and is currently 41 years old. Rachael Denhollander was born in Kalamazoo, MI, United States.
Rachael Denhollander is an attorney and former gymnast. She was the first woman to accuse Larry Nassar of sexual assault publicly.
Rachael was homeschooled and practiced gymnastics at a local club. In 2004, she became a gymnastics coach. Denhollander started law school at Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy at 19.
Rachael filed a Title IX complaint with the university and told her story of sexual abuse with the
Indianapolis Star. She said that Nassar sexually assaulted her while she was getting treatment for lower back pain when she was a 15-year-old gymnast.
She came forward 16 years after he first abused her, and it led to hundreds of other women who had similar allegations against him. At least seven other young women told somebody about Larry Nassar over a 20-year period before Rachael did the same; however, her complaint was the first one that gained any traction.
She was one of
Time’s 100 Most Influential People in 2018 and is a recipient of
Sports Illustrated’s Inspiration of the Year Award. She was a 2018 Glamour Woman of the Year. She received the 2021 Abraham Kuyper Prize for Excellence in Reformed Theology and Public Life.
What Is a Girl Worth?: My Story of Breaking the Silence and Exposing the Truth About Larry Nassar and USA Gymnastics is the inspiring true story about Rachael’s journey from idealistic young gymnast to a determined and strong woman that found enough courage to raise her voice against evil, even while she believed the world may not listen. In a vital cultural moment of #MeToo and #ChurchToo, here is a deeply compelling and personal narrative that shines a spotlight on the emotional and physical impact of abuse, why so many survivors are reluctant to speak out, and what it actually means to be believed.
Rachael’s voice was heard worldwide when she spoke out to end the most shocking USA gymnastics scandals in history. The first victim that publicly accused Larry Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics team doctor who sexually abused hundreds of young athletes, Rachael, now reveals her full story for the first time. How did Rachael and her fellow survivors finally stop him and bring him to justice? How did he get away with it for so long? And how can we protect the vulnerable in our own churches, families, and communities?
