Prudence Emery was best known as an author and publicist who spent decades as one of the most respected personalities in film production and show business.

She got started in Toronto before she made her mark in the Montreal Expo of 67, where she was a guide to high-profile celebrities and travel writers such as Edward Albee, Liberace, Hugh Hefner, and Twiggy. This was a turning point in her career as it opened many doors.

Thereafter, Prudence Emery got a job at the Savoy Hotel in London as a Public Relations and Press Officer. At the hotel, she spent half a decade managing media and meeting many iconic figures such as Ginger Rogers, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Petula Clark, and Louis Armstrong, among others.

During the 1970s, she moved back to Canada, where she worked as a film publicist who worked on more than 80 films. There she connected with the likes of Jeremy Irons, Sophia Loren, Robert Redford, and Julianne Moore. Notably, she worked with David Cronenberg, the film director, and together they worked on ten films.

Prudence Emery also proved she was creative beyond publicity as she published Hattie’s Heist, the short comedy, in 2014. She was also involved in the launching of the Griffin Poetry Prize before she passed on at age 87 in 2024.

In 2019, Emery published her memoir Nanaimo in which she tells of her life growing up in a nondescript British Columbia town before she made an unconventional and glamorous life for herself.

While her family had other expectations, she chose art school and soon got involved in the world of adventure, celebrities, and glamour. She mingled with the biggest stars such as Louis Armstrong, Noel Coward, and Twiggy before having a decorated career as a film publicist.

She published her first fiction work, Death at the Savoy, in 2023.

In the work, she tells of a mystery in London during the late 1960s inside the Savoy Hotel. It is a place full of socialites, royals, and celebrities, but the glamorous settings are disturbed when an infamous arms dealer is found dead in one of the rooms.

The main suspect is the trouble-prone and witty Priscilla Tempest, who heads the press office at the hotel, as she was the person last seen with the dead man. Facing pressure from her boss and the Scotland Yard, she has to somehow find a way to clear her name.

In her second fiction novel, Scandal at the Savoy, Prudence Emery once again sets her story at the Savoy Hotel.

The hotel is the scene of a scandal following the murder of a showgirl, with Priscilla Tempest once again the main suspect. She has a good alibi, but unfortunately, she will have to speak about her secret tryst with the Canadian prime minister, which she does not want to do.

Chased by reporters, pursued by a gangster, and blackmailed by a detective from Scotland Yard, Priscilla needs to navigate high society games, intrigue, and danger to clear her name.
