Preston B. Nichols was an electrical engineer and inventor who worked on the Montauk Project for several years; with expertise in electromagnetic phenomena. Upon further research into the Montauk base and Project Montauk, it came to light that he was actually the technical director of the Montauk Project despite having forgotten even working there.
“Despite brainwashing and threats to silence him” Preston B. Nichols sheds some light on resurfaced memories and teamed up with Peter Moon to write his first book: “The Montauk Project: Experiments in Time” as well as some other books in the Montauk Series. They also note that the book “is presented as non-fiction as it contains no falsehoods to the best knowledge of the authors but can be read as science fiction if that is more suitable.” “The Montauk Project” book offers soft evidence, however no hard physical evidence is recovered or demonstrated. The project is widely considered to have been a top secret government conspiracy. The authors also urge other people involved with the project to come out of the woodwork with their stories and experiences.
The actual Montauk Project was conducted at Montauk Point on Long Island and is believed to be an extension of the Philadelphia Experiment (ie. Project Rainbow). Montauk Point features a lighthouse and an Air Force Base of Old Fort Hero which was decommissioned in 1969 that was redesignated to this new project (Project Montauk) without sanction of the US Government and ran until 1983. Three decades of site use included secret experiments, applied technology, with some experiments involving time, space, alternate dimensions, mind control, weather control, alien life, UFO phenomena and other occult sciences.
Conspiracies surrounding the Montauk Project and these books were inspiration for the Netflix tv show:
Stranger Things; with Montauk being their original working title. Before that, it was originally going to be developed as a found-footage style film called The Montauk Experiment until it developed into
Stranger Things. There is a nice nod to it in the show’s finale where Hopper suggests moving to Montauk as they’re looking for a new chief of police.
