She went from being a struggling single mother living in Albany, Georgia, to becoming one of the most renowned culinary icons.

Following a failed marriage and the death of her parents, she was left dealing with anxiety and nearly penniless. She used her last $200 to start a small home catering business known as The Bag Lady. She worked with her sons Bobby and Jamie, who used to deliver meals as she captured hearts.

It was not long before Paula H. Deen became very popular that she opened The Lady and Sons, her restaurant. By 1998, she had already published her first cookbook, and things were looking up. Her warm and authentic personality endeared her to the audience, and she eventually got on TV and got acclaim on the Food Network, QVC, and beyond.

Soon enough, Paula H. Deen expanded the brand to include a line of lighter Southern foods known as Paula Deen Foods. She also sold dog food, ran a podcast, sold mobile games, had a live tour, and published numerous cookbooks, some of which became bestsellers on the New York Times.

In 2015, she was on Dancing with the Stars even as she continued to connect with fans through Sweet Home Savanna and Positively Paula. She is also very active in the media and runs a YouTube channel. She also serves on the board of the Bethesda Home for Boys and fights hunger through The Bag Lady Foundation.

In 2007, Paula Deen published her memoir It ain't All About the Cooking.
