Paul Reiser is an American actor, comedian, TV personality, composer, musician and author. He is famously known for his role in the 1990’s television sitcom Mad About You. He was ranked as 77th on the list of 100 Greatest Stand-Up Comedians of All Time by the Comedy Central in 2004 and had roles in Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills Cop II, and Diner. He’s also had minor roles in Aliens (1986), The Marrying Man, and Bye Bye Love.

Reiser is the author of three books: Couplehood explores the ups and downs of being in a committed relationship, Babyhood explores his experiences as a first-time dad while Familyhood is a compilation of humorous essays.

What a Fool Believes is a memoir by Paul Reiser in collaboration with Michael McDonald. McDonald is a famous musician whose smooth baritone voice has significantly shaped the rock and R&B industry in the past 50 years.

McDonald is an influential member of The Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers, as well as a successful solo artist who has contributed to famous hit songs like You Belong to Me, What A Fool Believes, Keeps You Running and many others.

McDonald shares his journey through the music industry as well as his personal struggles. He was raised up in Ferguson, Missouri but dropped out of school before relocation to California in the 1970s to major in a music career. His music career saw him start as a session musician and backup singer before eventually joining Steely Dan which resulted in his role as a key member of The Doobie Brothers and later a solo music career in R&B.

Beyond his music career, McDonald shares about his personal challenges such as his deep-seated insecurity, struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, and the highs and lows of celebrity. He often experienced seizures, blackouts and serious health conditions as a result of his long drug abuse. He managed to turn his life around despite all the struggles.

It also explores how a promoter's mistake resulted in him being nicknamed as known as Michael rather than “Mike” his preferred name. McDonald also explores the importance of family in his life and reflects on his relationships with his siblings, parents, aunt, and grandmother as well as his longtime marriage to his beloved wife, Amy and their two children. He reflects on the ups and downs they have experienced together.

What a Fool Believes was born from a series of Zoom conversations between Reiser and McDonald. It’s an engaging and deeply moving memoir that provides an insight to McDonald's life and career and it's a great read for music fans and anyone interested in celebrity stories.
