Noel Langley

Noel Langley was born on December 25th, 1911. Noel passed away November 4th, 1980 at 68 years old. Noel Langley was born in Durban, South Africa. Langley attended the University of Natal where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Noel Langley was a very successful director, novelist, screenwriter, and playwright best known for his work on the script for the film The Wizard of Oz, which was released in 1939.

He was first a very successful playwright on Broadway and a reputable author before he got into screenwriting during the 1930s. Following the Second World War, he worked on a range of movies from Ivanhoe, to They Made Me a Fugitive, The Pickwick Papers, and Schooldays.

In 1964, he read The Tale of the Land of Green Ginger, which he then offered to WBAI the New York radio station. This is what he would later make into an LP that he released as a fundraising premium and on listener-sponsored stations.

He was chosen to work on the screenplay for The Wizard of Oz under contract to MGM since he had penned a very successful children's fiction work. The work that got him the job was the children's classic work The Tale of the Land of Green Ginger, which he first published in 1937.

Edgar Allan Woolf and Florence Ryerson did all the revisions but Langley did not like his work being edited but there was nothing he could do about it. While the work was critically acclaimed when it was released and the public loved it, Langley hated it.

Nonetheless, the film has gone on to become a favorite film for many people Noel Langley tried a sequel inspired by The Marvelous Land of Oz but this work was never released.

Noel Langley died in Desert Hot Springs in California in 1980.

Noel Langley published The Wizard of Oz screenplay in 1900. This is the story of Dorothy who has found something delightful in the land of Oz. Heading to the Emerald City with her dog, they meet the Cowardly Lion, Tinman, and the Scarecrow. When they meet the Wizard, he takes them home but then flies away leaving them stranded and needing the services of the good witch of the South, if they are to get back home.

The Land of Green Ginger is a work that tells of Aladdin who is now married and having the time of his life. Since it is a children's fiction work, it is written in simple prose, even as the author draws his readers into a wide range of settings from Arabia, Persia, and China.
