Nadia Comaneci

Nadia Comaneci (Nadia Elena Com?neci) was born on November 12th, 1961 and is currently 64 years old. Nadia Comaneci was born in Onești, Romanian PR.

Nadia Comaneci is a Romanian-American gymnast who made history as the first Olympic gymnast ever to score a perfect 10.

She was just six years old when she was discovered by Bela Karolyi, her coach, and quickly rose through the ranks in national competitions.

In 1972, she announced herself to a global audience when she won three gold medals at a pre-Olympic competition. By 1975, she had become one of the most dominant athletes in the sport, defeating some of the biggest names.

Comaneci wrote her name in the history books during the Montreal Olympics in 1976 when she won gold in the uneven bars, balance beam, and the all-around competition with seven perfect 10s. She also won several other medals, including a bronze for the floor exercises and a silver in the team event.

Despite challenges and poor performance in the 1978 World Championships, she once again had a strong showing at the Moscow Olympics in 1980. Yet again, she was the winner of the floor and beam exercises and took home silver in the all-around and team competitions.

In 1984, Nadia Comaneci retired from active competition. Five years later, she walked across the Romanian border and moved to the US, where she became an American citizen.

In 1996, she married Bart Conner, the American gymnast, and they worked together promoting gymnastics. In 1993, Comaneci was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

In 2003, Nadia Comaneci published her debut work, In Letters to a Young Gymnast, in which she reflects on how she achieved so much over a trophy-laden career.

Through personal anecdotes, she shares stories of her journey from childhood in Romania, where her talent was discovered by Bela Karolyi. Together, they worked on developing the discipline and strength that made her one of the best to ever perform as a gymnast.

Nadia reflects on the mental and emotional strength she had to muster to achieve glory as a gymnast. She also offers insights into the many sacrifices needed and the pressure of fame, which one must deal with to achieve their loftiest goals.

Comaneci also reflects on elements of identity, personal growth, and how to keep yourself motivated even after you retire from the game and are away from the limelight.
